    Buying an external hard drive

    Hi

I'm looking to buy an extra hard drive, my 8GB pre installed one is getting a bit small, I was thinking of adding an external 40GB one for ease of transfering to friend's houses and things. Is this a wise idea? Does anyone know of a good reviews site/know of a hard drive that would do the job well? I was searching and found a Maxtor one, met the requirements at ?50, is this a good price? Sorry, I'm a complete newbie to all this, I've never updated my PC in my life.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

I'm using a Freecom 60gb external with Firewire on my laptop. Haven't had any problems with it over the last year though it does get a bit warm after a few hours or use. It supports USB2.0 as well so its catered for almost everybody.

have a look on here for external drive enclosures, it usually works out cheaper than buying an external drive already done.
