My kids loved wario touched, and nintendogs....although the latter was relatively short lived. Just bought them the new mario and it's going down really well.

I'd go for these three:

New Super Mario Bros.
Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing: Wild World

You can't go wrong with any of those and they're all very different. If you're intent on making it five any of Sonic Rush, Wario Ware: Touched, and Kirby Power Paintbrush would all be great options for a ten-year-old.
