using a uk xbox in the us....

i want to take my xbox and ps2 for that matter out to the us (both are uk machines)
can anyone help,do i simply need a us power cord (as the transformer is in the box on the lead) for the xbox

with the ps2,i have no idea

can someone please clear this up for both consoles?

    thanks

I think it's a bit more involved than just using a US power cord as UK & US consoles have different internal power supplies (both Xbox & old style PS2) designed for each country's domestic mains supply. I don't think your consoles would draw enough power to work in the US.

I'm pretty sure you'd need to use something called a step-up transformer (similar to a step-down only in reverse).

If your PS2 is a newer slimline model another option would be to replace the external power supply with one from a US PS2.

Another thing to bear in mind is that most American tv's will not accept a PAL video signal so you may have problems getting a picture.

That's gonna be one well travelled PSU!

I think the Xbox I sold you may have been a v1.0 unit. Nick,
am I right in saying Strawdog would need to check what version he has as later Xbox's need different PSU's?

It's been a while though so I could be confusing PSU's with (solderless) mod chips .

          cheers lads,
i will get the psu off you nick and try it through my stepdown transformer in uk before i go back to new york.
not sure what version my xbox is but its a good couple of years old so i am hoping its v1.0
no way of checking until i get back to uk next month to bit up my stuff.

          thanks for your help,

          btw-anyone tried amped2 on 360 yet?
heard its now on the backward compatability list.
is it better than playin it on xbox with component cable?

Haven't tried Amped 2 but it's one of the few Xbox games that supports 720p video.

If you've been playing it on an unmodded PAL Xbox (display will be 480i) then you should notice a big difference in picture quality. If however, you're playing it in 720p on a modded Xbox already then I'd imagine it'll look pretty much identical on 360.

Some of the Xbox emulation has been a bit ropey though so it may not run as smoothly on the 360 (frame rate/ sound issues aren't uncommon). Some games seem to work better than others.
