Are you (hi2has2) kkhimji2001 using a new username / account?

I'm guessing you are as you have the exact same step-down as he does & kkhimji2001 pm'd me earlier today on rllmuk asking where to buy a US 360/ what step-down I use....

(If this is the case) is it still the same 360 you posted about earlier in this thread or another one?

Sounds like you don't know if the problem is with the 360, the 360's PSU or if your step-down just isn't up to the job?

If I was in your position this is what I'd do:-

        i) If you still have the 'old' US 360...

....then you'd be mad to spend a few hundred quid on a new one 'til you know for certain that the one you have is faulty.

As has been suggested before you really need to try it with a UK 360 PSU (or another step-down). If it works then you know the problem is with either the US PSU or your step-down. Either way it'll cost you much less to sort out.

        or

ii) If you no longer have the 360 (or you've tried it with a UK psu & know it's definitely bust)...

If you are thinking of buying another 360 I'd suggest you also replace your step-down at the same time. This time go for a 500w model.

Whilst it might not be needed at least there'll be no risk of a 500w step-down damaging your 360.

That's just what I think though & it's really up to you to decide what you think's best.

I don't use a step-down myself. I know a few members use this one though:

You might be able to get a UK PSU from ebay for that kind of price if you'd prefer not to use a step-down at all.

What you should get is a solid orange light (no flashing) when psu is plugged in & the console is turned off. When the 360 is powered up the psu light should change from orange to solid green.

As you've returned the console I don't think you'll ever know for certain what caused the problem I'm afraid.

I've got a 300watt stepdown coming from a Ebay seller camlabelectronics, they are also a well established electrical store in Swindon. It cost ?28.49 inclusive of delivery and will get here well before my Japanese XBox 360 as that has yet to ship, so it looks like my other Japanese consoles get to play guinea pig with it first.

I saw those, the eurobatteries one scares me, because you have a selector switch on it. Although I know I will be very careful with it, I can't help but think there will end up being an inquiry in my house with someone exclaiming "I didn't move the switch".

                                The Maplins one is in the same style as the one I chose. What put me of the maplins one at ?39.99 was in the Q&A section the tech guy for Maplins says;

"With the 300VA any 110volt AC device that uses less than 212watts and can accept 50Hz. With the 200VA any 110volt AC device that uses less than 140watts and can accept 50Hz".

That seems to suggest that they may not be up to the job.

So I've gone for the one from camlab as they stated it is 300w 50/60hz.

Hopefully I've made the right choice, only time will tell.
