Cheapest GC RGB cable? Third party up to scratch?

    Hi,

Where's the best place to get an RGB lead for my Gamecube? Do I need the official one or are the third party jobs up to scratch?

    Cheers.

Hi, I'm on the look out for an Official Nintendo RGB cable for my newly imported US SNES, will all RGB cables display true RGB on an imported machine or will the cable I need have to be American too?

          I recommend this cable:-
          http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=260008382839
Its the Gamester Professional Gamecube Scart cable, fully wired and supports RGB, and is at least as good as the official cable, if not marginally better.

You cant use a normal scart cable on an NTSC Gamecube, as they dont support RGB through the analogue AV out like the PAL cube does. NTSC Gamecubes only support composite/S-Video.

However, you can get RGB out of an NTSC Gamecube but you need to get a modified D-Terminal or Component Cable like this one:-
          http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gamecube-USA-J...QQcmdZViewItem
which takes the RGB from the digital out port of the Gamecube.
Not cheap to get it pre-modded as you can see!

Or you could always buy one of the cables of play-asia/lik-sang and attempt to mod it yourself, heres a guide:-

          Hope that helps!

So on a PAL cube, would something like this be any good?

RGB Scart Cable (1.75m) for GameCube, Nintendo64, Super Famicom / SNESScart plugOffers a much improved picture qualityCable length: 175cm / 6 feetGamecube RGB only supported by PAL Gamecube consoles (not for JAP/USA machines)N64 RGB only supported after modification of the console (see links section)Supplied loose in bulk packing (without gift box)The RGB Scart Cable provides a much clearer picture quality compared to a standard AV or even to a S-Video lead. This Cable can be used to the Super Nintendo, Nintendo64 or Game Cube machine. Please note the following: Game Cube compability: Only supported by PAL Game Cube machines, the lead ...

I bought a cheap one from Game years ago and its never let me down. No interference etc.

Just talking about the Cube wants me to unpack mine again

I've always used these for NTSC N64 (modded rgb) and PAL GC rgb. Highly recommended and so cheap.

The GAMEware GameCube RGB cable has a fantastic image quality (on par with the official Nintendo cable but has the added bonus of a pair of audio phonos so you can hooked the cube up to an amp or stereo) and is like a quid if you can find a store with one. The only downer is the build quality on some of them can be a bit iffy.

http://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.as...106&mid=326139 out of stock online I'm afraid.

Yeah, a PAL Gamecube RGB cable will work fine on a US SNES console unless it's the newer SNES Jr. RGB support was disabled on the Jr's but I believe they can be modded to support rgb.

If anyone is looking to buy one then Gameplay still seem to be selling the official leads for ?19.99 delivered:

Cheers mate, ordered me one of those beauties last night, been looking high and low for a brand new boxed one. Strange how a PAL GC RGB cable will get the best possible RGB image from a US SNES, I know it's something to do with the pins being connected correctly or something.

I'm hoping that the official one will be alot better than those 3rd party ones you see on eBay for ?3 a pop and if it is...?20 is a small price to pay for true colour and ultimate clarity.

I used to use a cheap one for my imported SFC a year or so back and the colour always looked a bit washed out and grainy to me, some games looked okay at best but alot were just a let down, absolutely playable but dull and with respect...a bit Megadrivey and as we know, the Super Famicom always faired better in the brightness and variation of colour than that of it's Sega rival.

                        No worries.

I used to use one with my SFC (& PAL GC) and the picture quality was excellent. The image was sharp, colours vibrant and not washed out at all. Whilst they work well with ntsc machines I think you need to remove some pins to get a decent picture from a PAL SNES.

I'd previously tried a few 3rd party rgb leads and the picture through both my Cube & SFC was dull & washed out with all of them. I definitely think it's worth paying the extra for the official lead. Haven't tried the Game branded lead though so can't say how it compares.

Yeah I forked out ?50 for a modded NTSC GC RGB cable and that was worth every penny, you can't put a price on a decent image quality tbh. Might as well get the most you can out of your system.

I second this, absolutely excellent quality cable. The cable is extremely well shielded, the thickness of the cable suggests you could perform hangings with it, should capital punishment every come back (and all the world's rope disappeared!)

DO NOT BUY THE GAMEware CABLE!

It's fine on a low-end TV, but on any decent set (like my HDTV) you can see horrible diagonal lines running accross the screen.

I have a modified NTSC cable, if anyone wants one. It's the best non-p. scan cable money can buy. Not sure if it works with PAL cubes, I've never bothered testing.
