    Xbox 360 (asian version)

what exactly is an asian version?

    NTSC/J or a mixture of NTSC/U and NTSC/J?

and help on the subject much appreciated

    Thanks

It's NTSC/J only so essentially the same as a Japanese 360.

The only difference is that the Asian model comes with a 220v (rather than 110v) power supply, so can be used in the UK without a step-down.

I?ve started looking into getting an Asian 360. Has anyone got any recommendations of places to buy from?

      TIA

ah ok, in that case do people reccommend getting a NTSC/U 360 or a NTSC/J 360?

That's a difficult one & I think it comes down to personal preference really.

I've got a US 360 but the main reason is that I'm a big American sport fan and many titles don't get released over here. Getting stuff like Dead Rising a wee bit earlier than elsewhere is a bonus.

If you are particularly interested in stuff that's developed in Japan then you might want to get an ntsc/j machine. Language may not be too big a problem as most Asian games are in English too. However, it could turn out be a bit like the original Xbox if sales don't pick up.....very little in the way of Japan developed games & many Western titles not getting a release. The other thing is that many so called 'region free' PAL/ US games don't work on ntsc/j 360's....

I'd never have said this in the past but a PAL machine is a pretty good option too. Most new PAL titles are either released about the same time as everywhere else or just a couple of months later. Also if you have any problems it's easier to replace/ return a UK machine.

You pays your money you takes your chances!

It seems some region-free games can work on the Japanese 360, but not the Asian one so I guess something else must be different about them besides the PSU.

I hadn't heard of that before.

I know many Asian games are region free so would've thought if anything it would've been the other way round. Weird...

Does anyone know if an Asian 360 will work ok with a UK based Xbox Live account? If so would JPN online games work on Live at all? Was praying that Senko no Ronde would be playable online somehow.

Yup, it doesn't matter what region of Xbox 360 you have, or where you are in the world, you can sign up and use Xbox Live with no probs. I have a Japanese Xbox 360, with a UK Xbox Live account, and play NTSC-J and region free PAL games online with no problems at all.
