PAL SNES games on a US SNES

I really should know this already, but will a PAL Snes game run in 50 or 60HZ when played on a USA SNES console?

Disregarding PAL optimised games, is the output dictacted by the hardware or the software?

As a rule, they'll run at 60Hz but some had extra lockout features that meant they don't load unless they detect a 50Hz machine.

You can get around this with a 50/60Hz switch in most cases.

It's the hardware that sets the hertz.
