    PC Operating Temps

Can someone please tell me at the normal operating temperatures for a PC. I have speedfan running and its telling me all parts of the computer are between 39-51 C. Is this too hot or about right? The internet seems full of contradictions.

    Seems about right mate.
CPU should be about 50C, though don't start worrying too much unless it goes over 60C.

Any idea what heatsink/fan you have on your CPU? Store-bought PC's will obviously not have the best.

Thats ok then. Its just that once it hits 50 the little icon on Speedfan turns into a flame to signify it being too hot. I recently stripped out one heck of a noisy fan and turned the speed down on another. Now its almost silent which made me worry about the heat.

I can't remember now what fan/heatsink is on the CPU. It came as a kit with the processor though. So I can't imagine it being too good. I was looking to maybe get this case http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/917...FVAhQgodUVdxRw to help keep things cool and quiet.

Its a shame that there are no airconditioned cases avaliable in the UK. Or non that I can find.

Also does that temperature hold true for HD's too?

Got that case myself, it's quite lovely, definately keeps temps down and made my machine tons quieter too. Pain in the ass to work with, mind.

Unless things have changed in recent years (I've not been keeping up with PC hardware much these days) CPUs should be rated to run to at least 90C with no problems at all. I wouldn't worry about 50. Hell, many laptops hit at least 70.

My laptop CPU was at 96C! Turned out that an incorrectly fitted heatsink was to blame.

Anyone know of any generic apps that can tell you the temp?

I know intel do one, but you need specific chipset for it to work.

I've never really got in to all this temperature thing. For me its just something you don't have to worry about unless you're seriously overclocking. As long as you've bought decent components, your PC should be able to run 24*7 for year upon year without having to worry about it overheating.

Unless you have removed fans to enable silent running. Which is what I was trying to acheive.

Lol, that's just asking for trouble in a PC! I admire your enthusiasm though and wish you all the luck in the world. I just don't have the patience for that sort of stuff!

                          removing the fans?

just buy a cool and quiet case, one with silent PSU / fans already.

Well I didn't remove them all. Just the really loud ones that made it sound like a helicoptor was buzzing round inside the case. It is really quiet now. More like my xbox. Which is what I was trying to acomplish. Still may get that case though.
