Converting Avi to Nero - Burning to a CD

I have a few episodes of a TV program I would like to waatch on my VCD compatable DVD player so I went about it in the usual way.

I would normally load up Nero transfer the data to a CD and burn it however Nero says this filr type is not supported.

I'm not sure if it will work but does anyone know of a free downloadble application that will transfer an avi movie file to something Nero would like?

    Many thanks for any help!

The easiest way for me would be to load up something like VirtualDub and re-encode it with another codec or format.

There are loads of guides around and virtualdub is free.

Isn't that a bit odd? avi is just a carrier for multiple codec types. If your PC can play it, Nero should be able to use it.

I've just tried adding an avi into nero express for VCD and it worked fine.....
            And in Nero Burning rom.
            I've got 6.6.14
Can your pc play the avi in windows media player?

Yeah it plays fine but I just had a brainwave. Can you update Nero's firmware?

That could be the root of my problem.

Nero is really **** for this sort of thing though. The best thing to do is to convert the file to mpeg with another application (this is what Nero does) and then burn that as a VCD. The recommended application for this is TMPGEnc.
