    1 Gamerprofile 2 xbox 360 consoles

is there anyway i can save the same gamerprofile to 2 360's? using a memory card at the mo and switching it between them both, but it makes the 'just pick up the controller and power on' aspect of the 360 redundant (i need to get up to change the mem card over)

I think you can but you have to recover the tag each time you switch machines apparently.
I use mine on both, however I actually move the hard drive from machine to machine.

What would be cool is if someone could figure a way to connect the HDD to 2 machines at the same time. I'm sure it would be possible but there isn't a market for such a device as the proportion of 360 owners who will buy 2 machines is miniscule.

both machines have their own hdd - tried copying it from mem card to both, but it wipes it from the mem card when you do that.

hmmmm, i could use the mem card usb adaptor - make a copy of the profile, save it on one hdd and then reload it from pc and save it on the other but i dunno if this will mess up the gamerscore (does it save to a central server or is it machine dependant?)

The gamerscore is saved on both the machine and a server. e.g. if your machine is offline and you gain some offline achievements, it'll reflect on your machine immediately but not on the server until you connect to live.

It's worth a try, I think your idea ought to work

I've probably missed something here, but isn't it possible to leave your first machine as it is, and retrieve your existing gamertag on your new machine? Then just play games as normal and the gamertag is updated on Live as you play each game (on each machine)? As long as both 360's aren't powered up and connected to Live at the same time, I can't see there being a problem with it.

On your other question, like Geezer said, if you are not connected to Live the achievements are saved to the machine 'temporarily' and the next time you connect to Live are made 'permanent'.

Either way, I think my above method should work.

I know that if you retrieve the gamertag to another console, when the 1st console connects to live, all the saves are deleted.

It may happen if you try copying it via other methods

The other thing to watch is downloading Arcade titles - I think I'm right in saying that when you download them they're assigned to the Gamertag and the serial number of the console. If you try to play them another system you can't unless you're connected to Live.

Not the biggest of problems but maybe something to bear in mind.

Not really bothered about arcade stuff - will download that to either console and play it exclusively on that one. its more the gamer profile thing - since some games will be getting played on the japanese console I would like my gamer points to continue plus the ability to play Live from whichever console I choose.

In regards to retrieving the gamertag - that would take time each and every time i switched consoles, and would definitely become a pain in the ass.

Only one machine will be switched on at a time - so I can't see how saving the gamer profile to both machines will be a problem. The only thing I am worried about is when the gamer profile will differ in scores between both machines, would this cause the server to **** up or would it auto update the 'old' score on the unused machine when i boot that one up?

Surely the saves are associated with the console itself and stored offline on your memory unit/hd?

What I mean is you can retrieve the gamertag the first time, and then continue as normal since your new machine will remember that gamertag, so everytime you start it up again, the profile will already be there and sign in automatically.

With regards to the score, there shouldn't be a problem. I assume both consoles will be hooked up to Live (albeit not at the same time)? If so, then it will not be a problem. Once you've finished playing on one console (and provided it was connected to Live during/after you got your achievements), when you log in on the other console it'll sync the gamertag with the one on the other machine, so the gamerscore will continue as normal as if you are playing on the same machine.

EDIT: You can simply make sure about this by sending a pm to some other members who have 2 360 machines (e.g. Bleeders) and ask them how they handle it. I'm 99.9% sure my method is correct, but it doesn't hurt to get confirmation.

I just use one HDD on both my xbox360s. Saves the bother of deleting saves etc.

thats more of a ballache than switching memory card over tbh - i want a 'turn it on and profile is there' type of thing going on

Try recovering to another machine and see what happens.

                        It tells you that

I've tried the memcard option, but it's rubbish when certain saves won't copy etc if they have were saved on the HDD to start with.

Popping out the HDD is no less time consuming than walking to a diferent room in the house to get a game etc. Saves all that recovering gamer tag non-sense, are my saves deleted worry etc

Very strange if that is the case.

I almost crapped myself when my gamertag got corupted and I had to recover it, fortunately recovering it to the original console is A-ok
