    Importing A PS2

Next March I'm going over to the US for a week and have been wondering over picking up a US PS2 whilst I'm there. What kinda stuff would I definetly need to run it (eg step down) and would I have any customs probs bringing it over?

You would need a stepdown (check out the import tech section on this site for the ideal wattage). You will also need a TV that can support NTSC. Thats it though you wont need anything else.

You should be able to get it passed customs pretty easily.

just a stepdown about 100watt to be safe and an rgb scart lead should do

Stepdown as above mate and you won't have any troubles at all with customs. For travellers returning to the UK from outside of the EU there is a ?180 duty free allowance for "non-controlled merchandise" (i.e. not booze, smokes or toilet water etc.) and you don't need to declare it either, just keep your store receipts incase HMCE ask any questions (highly unlikely)
A word of advice though, I'd pack it wrapped in towels in the centre of you biggest suitcase as those baggage throwers are non too careful.....

If want any pointers on stuff to check out while you're over there I know the San Diego and Las Vegas locales quite well and we have a couple of resident Yankiedoodles on these forums. Whereabouts are you going?

hmm.. i didnt think a US machine would even output RGB (isnt it all S-video over their?)

anyway, i have a 60hz telly but not NTSC, therefore an RGB cable is my only option, will the official RGB cable you can get in the UK work on a US/JAP PS2?

          thanks

Yup - even the PSOne RGB cables work.

just checked my step down, it doesn't say anything about WATT but says 100VA on it, i assume thats another way of saying WATT but can anybody confirm this before i set the aformentioned PS2 on fire.

                HighJack thread alert

I'm going to the states on July 27th, me and the missus are finally tieing the knot in Las Vegas , then were onto San Fransisco.
We visited both a couple of years ago and i struggled to find anywhere selling games, the only half decent place in San Fransisco was a massive Virgin Megastore near Union Square.
Can anyone tell me where i may find some games shops in either pleeeease

How much are this generation of consoles in the states at the moment ???

                  Everyone luvin the Vegas!

I've got an RGB running on my PAL one so I'm good for that. Me and my other half went last year to a few places and next March we're going to Vegas again for a week. Not to marry though.....thats a few years later. The only places I saw that did games there were Virgin and Schwarz in Caesers, Oddysee and some small games shop down somewhere around the MGM end. Are there any others?

Its all coz I want Suikoden 3, Xenosaga, .hack etc....

This has got to be a first, a videogame board, where at least 2 of the posters have wives/girlfriends............

There's a couple of malls away from the strip which have Gamestop stores, check out the store locator at www.gamestop.com.
If you can find one check out a Target store too - dirt cheapness. I got Suikoden 3 from the Target in San Diego for $30!

In one of the Vegas Gamestops I got pre-owned Crazy Taxi 2 for $8 and Dark Cloud 2 for $28, they are quite happy to ring around their local stores and check stock levels for you if you want something in particular.

It may be worth checking out downtown Vegas too but only go during the day as it's a bit rough at night.

If you get a chance and you're halfway interested in Star Trek check out the Star Trek experience at the Vegas Hilton - totally amazing.

yes and the elvis statue in the lobby. There is an EB in the mall in Vegas, they'll have all your gaming needs except a step down converter. Go to ebgames.com and they have a store locator for the US you can find out where the EB is in Vegas.

Congrats I got married in vegas too.
