Missing 360 HDD Space

Bit of a weird one this guys, got a Japanese 360 with 20Gb HDD, however, only 9Gb being reported free. Now, I've hardly got anything on there in the way of Trailers, Demos etc. Only a few Save Games.

There's nothing in the System or Music folders, so where's all my space gawn?

You lose 7 meg for games to use for caching data. You should have 13meg though. The UK and US machines came with loads of videos pre-installed (which I deleted straight away).

Does the Japanese version come with FFXI pre-installed? That takes up 5 meg. If so and you need to remove it, put in the FFXI DVD and remove it from the Playonline setup screen.

The game caching might explain it, but I couldn't see any other files on the HDD that could account for 2Gb of it.

I know my system has 11Gb free as I've got no demos on there at the moment, only some Arcade stuff and saved games.

2Gb is taken up with the crappy videos that came with it (that I still haven't got around to deleting yet).

The demo's you do have on there is the only thing I can think of. Most Live demo's are around the 700Mb to 1Gb mark so that could be it?

I've been careful to delete any demos, I'll have to makedo I think, as long as it doesn't end up encroaching on me when I need a critical update or DLC, I'll be fine. I tend not to have demos or trailers lingering for too long.

Mine came with a bunch of videos already on the HDD - the making of "Titanic" and some other stuff. Over a gig's worth anyway. I have 12 or 13 GB free once I delete any demos I have.

I twigged this in the end chaps, well, I backed up my save games and formatted the drive using MEMORY > FORMAT and now have 14Gb again!

there is a xbox live arcade game and quite a bit of music on it for some reason

That's standard mate, most come bundled with stuff like that, just zap it if ye' don't want it.

I noticed when messing around that I had a lot of incomplete files on the HD. They only show up under the memory tab though, you don't see them under video's or demo's.
