Softmodding Xbox to use Media Center - HELP!!!!

I have a new xbox (bought a few weeks ago) that I would like to use to play DivX files from a DVD.

A softmod is required yeah? Is it a case of downloading an iso, sticking it on a cd then inserting it in an xbox? I've had a look around some sites but theres so much to sift through. This is about as far as I want to mod the 'box!

Don't think an unmodded Xbox will read a cd with an iso file burnt onto it (but could be wrong).

I think the most common way of soft modding is to use a soft mod kit. Basically this consists of a copy of a game like Splinter Cell and a memory card with a 'hacked' save file (containing a soft mod installer app) on it. From memory it's really just a case of booting up the game, loading the save & then letting the installer run.

Once soft modded you can then set up ftp (file transfer) access to a pc and transfer over any apps etc. you want to put on the Xbox.
