Quiet CPU fan for Intel P4 HT 3.2GHz?

I've been using the standard fan that came bundled with the CPU, but it's f**king loud when the CPU goes above someting like 30% usage (which is a lot when I'm streaming DIVX to my 360 through in the living room).

Are there any fans large enough to fit that CPU without sounding like the engine fan in my Elise?

Thermaltake Big Typhoon is supposed to be one of the best. It's got a 120mm fan which you can slow down or put on a quieter one if you really want. However it's huge so check it fits the case.

I got a Zalman 9500, it's probably not quite as good as the BT but it's not as huge and is very quiet if you turn the fan down. Even with the fan on lowest it still does a much better job cooling than the stock heatsink.

For something cheaper maybe try the Freezer Pro 7.

Can't go wrong with Zalman, I have a 7000 AlCu and I'm fairly fanatical about noise. If you want the final word on silent cooling...

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. I have a shop called Kustom PC's not far from me where I can buy a Zalman cooler. What sort of difference would I get though, cos it's nearly 30 quid and I'd prefer not to waste it if it's still going to sound horrendous when the CPU is under load.

This is my current cooler - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...68-002&cpc=SCH

I can find any noise measurements online for it though.

The difference is night and day.

What you will find is that the CPU fan is infact masking the noise of another component like the graphics card or the hard drive, which will then becomes the focus of your attentions. Its a cat and mouse game that can lead to a major overhaul of your systems heatsink/fans.
