Playing a UK Xbox (PAL) on a TV in Japan (NTSC)

I have a UK Xbox which I have brought with me to Japan. I have the sorted the voltage difference by getting a transformer (no jokes please), but I cannot get the signal to go from the Xbox to the TV.

    My UK xbox is PAL.
The TV's over here are NTSC. None of the TV's or video's have scart sockets, but rather have the yellow/red/white phono cables. I have taken off the scart adapter and plugged the phono cables into the TV.

I get sound perfectly, but the picture is in black and white and flickers alot. I have tried to retune the TV but this has not worked. I have also tried to go into the settings on the Xbox, but the only signal options I have are either PAL or PAL 60.

Do you know how I can resolve this?

    Cheers

Yes. You need to switch your console output to NTSC.

You need a (non budget) version of Mechassualt and some hacked Mechassualt saves on a memory card (Mega-X-key or Action Replay). Then you copy the gamesaves to the xbox hd and then boot up Mechassault, load up the save and choose the save to load up Evox (I forget the wording exactly).

This will then allow you to change the video out of your Xbox to NTSC, but some PAL games may refuse to work (at all) or work properly. I think PAL halo will give you issues and I have heard that PAL EA games will not work at all.

    Hope this helps.

Or do the right thing and install a modchip, less hassle.
After that, you can also play any JAP games (they now should be cheap as dirt overthere).
The program you should look for is "Enigmah videoswitch", it can display NTSC consoles in PAL and vice versa.

Is this a piece of hardware or a programme to run off a CD/DVD? Any idea of a price or where I might get one - I`m staying in central Tokyo, Akskaka

I dunno about that in Japan, mate.

A modchip is a piece of hardware that's installed onto the MB to run unsigned code (duh). After that you can boot a burned cd with the software on it or ftp the soft to your xbox.

It is possible to softmod the XBox as Gunrock said, but then you really need al of the things he mentioned: original game, softmod hacks from the internet (these are altered savefiles for that specific game), a memcard (preferably the Action Replay, very easy to install the savefile from the PC to the memcard and then on your Xbox's HD).

Just look on the internet for some info, there are quite a few guides for this, Google for "xbox softmod" or something similar.

I'm just about to do this myself. Just waiting on action replay from play-asia and splinter cell from a forumite.

PS it's always possible to get the save file from an already chipped/softmodded xbox, as they already have ftp access to the pc, then you'd only need a regular memcard.( probably saves you some money)

If you send me a memory card, I can put the Mechassualt saves onto it. You still need a copy of the game (obviously). Joyously, it's region free so a US or PAL one will do (as long as it's not the budget version).

Edit: there may even be a Jap version as it was a Microsoft published title and it features Mechs.

I guess I could get the splinter cell version of the saves on there too, if you have a copy of that already. Or maybe, CharlesR can do that?

I have a soft modded xbox, i did it with the James bond save and some friends kit.

Be warned though it does not work with all xboxs, as i believe that they changed the video driver on the xboxs. Not sure if this is still the case but was a while back when we tried to do a friends, he just ended up gettting it modded in the end.
