    Upscaling DVD Player

Thought I'd give a heads up to people looking for a new DVD player to go with a HDTV. Aldi are doing a Tevion 8000 upscaling DVD player for ?39.99. It upscales to 720p and 1080i, and comes complete with a HDMI cable and scart cable.

It also has component output, VGA output and digital/coax for surround sound.

On the front is a 5in1 card reader, allowing you to view pictures and MP3s using the DVD player.

Also, it plays R2 DVDs out of the box, but using a simple remote code, can be made regionfree.

The big selling point of the DVD player is its ability to read DIVX files for all your downloaded goodies. Have tried out some downloaded anime I have on a data DVD and it work perfectly and also looks pretty good.

Some clever clogs out there have found away to connect an external USB harddrive by soldering a USB socket onto the board, and say that it works perfectly.

From what Ive seen so far, its as good as (if not better than 360 upscaling) and for the price its at you cant really go wrong.

Does it upscale over Component and VGA? That would be interesting

I'd be interested to know that too.

Still, DVD over VGA is pretty spiffy, especially for the price.

Ah yes. If component is selected as output, you cant upscale, but if HD is selected then you can. My mistake.

Great find Hasan! Thanks so much for sharing. I just bought a new XDE and wanted an HDMI source.

Would be cheaper if MSoft enabled Upscaling over Component Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

                But still 40quid! Brilliant.

                    Silly Quick question...

Is it Multi Region out of the box or is there a hack???

As I may have just found the replacement for my ageing multi region Toshiba SD2109 if it is.

Thanks for sharing BTW much much appreciated

                    Neil

EDIT: Sorry just looked on AV Forums & it can be made MR with a handset hack...hopefully I'll still be able to pick one up at the weekend.
