    PSP - CW versus Black

This was originally posted in the shipping and arrivials sticky thread, but thought it would be more apt in here instead.

As I posted earlier, I've recieved two PSPs, one ceramic white and one black by accident (had both in the cart during the checkout process). As I'm having trouble deciding which one to keep, I was wondering if there are perhaps any discrepancies between the two, such as altered specs or whatever that might sway me in favour of the other.

    Thanks!

    No difference beyond the cosmetic.

The only possible difference in PSP hardware is that some have the newer TA-082 motherboard which has extra security functions to prevent downgrading the and execution of unofficial code. If one of them has the older motherboard (how to check) it's probably worth holding onto that.

      Ahh, I see.

I suppose this will have to be settled through coin flipping!

Put the coin down. The CW is for woofters only.

Black consoles look cheap & tacky. They show up dust & fingerprints like nothing else.

It's not the 90's anymore ditch the crappy black.

But the white gets dirty real quick.

Mine is still as white as it was on launch day. Its shiny so the dirt doesn't stick.

The black looks very 80's now i think. If that's your thing then go for that.

Putting them together with the same game playing the screen is ever so slightly richer but the sound is much much louder on the white

I thought the sound was louder on the white one also, glad it's not just me.

Had my white one a year and it still looks like new

Why not send them both back and get a pink one

This is untrue. As others have mentioned, the sound is ever so slightly louder on the white PSP. More that that, on the white the buttons are raised slightly higher meaning they are a little more responsive. Now, the d-pad is still cack and the shoulder buttons still miss depending on how they are pressed but there is a bit of an improvement.

If you have the choice, go for the white. And check the motherboard.

Are these improvements exclusive to the white model? Seems crazy if so. Surely if you buy a brand new black one with 2.X firmware, it'll also have the raised buttons etc?

its all down to opinion tbh, if you like the black one get the black one and vice versa, i must admit the buttons on the white psp being solid white looks much better that the see through black ones.

imo i prefer the white one.

Actually that's a very good point. There seemed to be quite some time where the black PSPs didn't have those improvements after the white PSPs were released but that could have been old stock. As you say, it would make sense to improve the recent black models too. I haven't seen any very new black PSPs to compare.
