Slide tool won't open PS2 tray

I just got Swap Magic discs and a slide tool to play some import shooter goodness. Much to my frustration I cannot get the slide tool to open the friggin' PS2 disc tray. I've read a few faqs but they don't seem to help.

The slide card will slot in above the tray but it seems there's nothing to grab hold of. It won't fit in under the tray no matter how hard I jam it in.

Please tell me what I'm doing. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You slide the tool under the tray at the left-hand side and move it across until you feel it connect with the ejection tab: you'll feel this because there will be resistance and the tray will start to fidgit a bit. You then smoothly slide it all the way to the right so that the tray ejects.

I take it you've removed the front of the tray? The tool won't fit under unless you do...

Had the same problem, but couldn't bother to remove the front.Haven't tested it since, just open up my console if I want to put an import on the HD...

        Look here: http://www.console.com/_playstation_...lidecard_2.jpg
If you search a bit more on that site, you'll find some other guides for the tool.

Thanks alot anephric, I've finally got it working. Funnily enough the front part of my disc tray fell of ages ago and I super glued it back on. I thought I'd never get it back off again but with some serious force it relented and is now in the bin.

I bought a Swap Magic'd Ps2 not long back and the guy had sort of done something and manged to sort the lid out so you didn't need the tool. It involved blue-tac and a small piece of metal...not too sure what he did, but works fine for me.
I'm aware that was probably of no use what-so-ever.

If you plan to use the Swap Magic discs regularly from now on, it might be worth getting a flip top shell. It's basically a replacement upper shell for your machine, lid opens PS1-style, allowing easy swapping of the discs without drive-knacking slide tools.

Also, you may come across games which do not work on the Swap Magic - you can find bootdiscs called ZoneLoader and CDLoader on the net... boot these up with Swap Magic, then boot your problem game up from there.

I reckon it's worth getting a cheap modded machine from the forums, personally.

Yeah, they also sell new versions of the slidecard with new fronts etc.

If you're planning on buying a fliptop, be sure that the lid has a plastic thingy on the bottom side of the lid, so the magnet can be put inside, otherwise you'll have to take it off/put it back manually. Seen it happen a couple of times...
(The problem with these is that there are various models of the PS2, so what they did is make different versions of the fliptop. You may have to cut/glue little things like the memcard door-holders, paper ribbon holders etc...)

And yes, the PS2's drive breaks easily. I've fixed dozens of them the last 6 years working in an import shop. There's also a way to fix this problem, but then the console'll probably never get to be placed vertically.

                Have fun.

If you mean to go do the Swap Magic road, definitely get the flip-top mod because you'll essentially destroy your drive using the slide tool, no matter how careful you are. Well, alright, if you're reallllly patient you'll probably be okay. I killed my V7 PS2 in this fashion.

Killed as in "threw it away", or killed as in "I kept it and still use it as a coaster"?
I can tell you how to fix it, probably..

The drive got completely deaded (ejection tab buggered, motor knackered, ejection arm bent): I did have a spare (slightly dodgy) V7 drive but those really ****ing irksome, delicate ribbon cables got FUBARed and then I couldn't be bothered to buy replacements for those either, hence... I threw it against a wall in a fit of pique. It was very satisfying (considering I'd been fiddling with it for hours).

I think I've got the guts around somewhere to use as spares, even though I slimline now.

                        Good job, that'll teach 'em!

Nevermind then, but personally I did obtain my PS2 by composing it from 3 different broken down consoles.
(as I would never pay money to Bony for a design as ugly as that IMO)

Dont mean to be critical, but why go through all this when you can pick up a cheap messiah/infinity modded ps2 that just auto boots anything you put in the tray?

Depends on your definition of "cheap" - you can start Swap Magicking for less than ?20. The last second-hand modded PS2 I bought was a thrashed bag o' ****, too, which I had to go through hell returning. Hence my present V12 Slimline Swap Magic setup.
