Xbox live? Do i need a hard drive?

I would like to know if i need a hard drive to go online on the 360?

I have a memory unit but don't want to get live and then realise that i can't use it.

    Also some info on live:

-When i get live, for what i payed for the Xbox live box in the store, is that my 12 mounth first subscription payed for?

-Does it come with a very, very long wire to plug into, (Broadband im geussing?)

-if it plugs into the broadband, will i have to pay any extra for my time on xbox live?- like paying extra on to the phone bill or broadband bill.

-And what payment methodes can be used for the renewal of my membership every year?

    Sorry for so many questions.

    All replys greatly appreciated. Thanks

You don't need a HDD to go online, you can play online and download live arcade games to a memory card.
Obviously if you want to download demos/videos/extra game content you need an HDD

the xbox live sub packs cover your subscription for one year.

It doesn't come with a cable, the premium version of the console does though. You can buy a long cable for like ?5

you wont incur any extra charges, it is just the same as using your PC online.

You can either use debit/credit cards or just buy another 3 month/ 12 month top up.

Also, you get a 1 month free trial (should be explained in the packaging with the 360) so just plug it in and get online goddammit
