    Firefox problems again :(

In the morning , after my aunt used the computer, it said it was updating itself...
Well when I went on Play-Asia, the pictures of some games had some arabic writing or pictures from London! (The Underground :P)
The login page looked blurry, and on IGN it also was a bit screwed up. It has lots of Athiest logos on it...

It deosn't do this on Opera, and I have alreayd reinstalled Firefox...
    Virus?!

Firefox version 1.5.0.7 has been released as an update, my upgrade was a couple of days ago when the pop-up message came up.

Maybe your install got corrupted somehow?

Do a virus scan though to be safe, but play-asia was working fine earlier on today when I was visiting the site.

Maybe empty the cache as well?

I have done a virus scan, and it doesn't detect a virus.
Even if it were a corrupt installation, I wouldn't be getting Arabic writing, pictures of the underground or pics saying Athiest on IGN

I will have to stop using Firefox I guess

Might be worth having a look/posting on the Firefox support forums.

Both the sites you mentioned IGN and Play-Asia have displayed fine when I've been at them today and I only browse using Firefox.

Obviously their is something wrong somewhere, though I don't know what it would be, sorry.

Edit: Might be worth checking to make sure the fonts and character encoding options have been messed around with.

The only thing I can suggest is the good old uninstall and reinstall.

I did but it still acts as if I didn't do it :P

I want to upload it on imageshack but because I am stupid, I do not know how to make the file size smaller >_>

Have you also checked for spyware? If not try something like Spybot SD or/and Adaware.

I've had no ebd of problems getting firefox to display JP pages, it just wont bring up the right fonts. Just looked on my options (instead of Character encoding) & I don't have this in my options screen as well. Worked fine on my old XP box, but not on this win MC box. Time to hit up the firefox help for sure.

Try visiting a Japanese page in Internet Explorer - a lot of people do this way before they used Firefox and forgot about it. They then get problems once they reinstall as they don't remember doing it. This should get it to install the correct language pack for the OS. (pain it has to be done - OSX has it all out of the box)

As for your problem, it sounds like either something has gone horribly wrong, or this "update" was a malicious extension a site was trying to install. (I've got no idea if there are any around or not though)

Open up Firefox, bring up the favourites manager and export your bookmarks to the desktop. You might want to double-click the file afterwards to make sure that everything is there.

Quit Firefox and go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data (iirc - I don't use Windows anymore) and delete any Mozilla or Firefox folders in there. If you're using other Mozilla products like Thunderbird, this will clear all data from them too, so be careful. (just go in and delete the specific firefox ones)

Note: This is a hidden folder, so you'll have to enable them from the view menu, or type it into the address bar.

Once you do that, launching Firefox will act like a fresh install, and should be working properly again. You can then just import your bookmarks.

Well I installed that spyware detection software, and it did get rid of some spyware and now my problem if fixed. =D
Will have to keep an eye out for these things. Now I got my old problem again, i can't post using firefox :P And Safe mode doesn't fix it, like it did last time, but it doesn't matter.

                          For spyware removal (R) and prevention (P) I recommend Ad-Aware SE (R), Spybot (R & P), Spyware Terminator (R & P), and SpywareBlaster (P); all tried and tested.
