Netgear DG834N problem - now with added PSP headache

Just finished setting up my wireless network with one of these routers and have run into an odd problem.

Everything works great until I try and tell it to stop broadcasting my SSID. The minute I do, my Laptop stops seeing the network and can't connect. Turn it back on and everything's fine again

I've enabled WPA2 and MAC filtering ad set it all up in Windows, but still no joy. I've also upgraded the firmware to the latest version and no change.

    Anyone else have this problem?

I'm also having problems connecting my PSP to it now.

No matter what I seem to do, with any kind of encryption on the PSP (firmware 2.81) won't access the network and keeps giving a timeout message.

Switch off the encryption (or use WEP) and it connects no problem - but I'm don't fancy leaving my network open to all and sundry just to play on the PSP.

    Any ideas?

Hello. I have just installed exactly the same router.
The only way I can get my psp to connect is by setting the router to WEP too.
If I try and use WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] then my psp will just time out the same as yours.
I'm using 2.60 firmware on my psp so it aint just because you're using 2.81.
I guess WEP will have to do for now...

I've actually found a work around for it.

Don't set the router to WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] mode but just to the one marked WPA-PSK [TKIP]. Use the same mode in the PSP network connection setup and it should work.

Although TKIP is marginally less secure that AES, it's still a lot better than WEP (and providing you're using good practices for keeping your network secure it shouldn't really be a problem)

          Ahh yes I see.

I have mine set exactly the same as yours now.

My PSP & laptop are connecting fine
