    Wii Confusion!??!

    Ok

I am about to pre order a Wii and was going to pre order a PAL machine as I just havent been 'into' my games as much as I have been a few years ago and as such play at a more relaxed and less full on buying/collecting roll as I did, hence the decision to get a PAL WII, esp after my PAL 360 is all good.

Now, I have a US Gamecube, and only just now found found out that the Wii plays Game Cube games?? So this would meen all my GC games canot be played as they are US versions??

also, I play all my consoles on a LCD Projector, and with this new stick/wand, will it still work??

I would just import a console for the US but as I am, I just like the idea of swaping games in the uk and selling/swapping games alot easier with the UK version as by mate who is also a gamer like me (ie likes games alot!) will be gettng a Pal machine and I dont wanat to miss out on anything??

And plus, I like the image quality to be good too, so will PAL suck ballS?? Or should I just stop whining and go US??

    Cheers

    Adam

    Freeloader no?

Why wouldn't the wand work? It's not a lightgun.

*gets into DeLorean to find out answers about image quality*
    Kept you waiting, huh?

If you use a projector, then you'll be fine with a US version because you can use the component output from the Wii. It's doubtful your US gc games will work on a pal wii. This is the important factor for me wanting to get a US Wii. You will be able to swap some games with your mate because the Wii will have some region free games (depends on publisher), but it won't be ideal if that's your main criteria. The main question yet unanswered is, will the pal Wii do 480p? If you need one at launch, I'd go for the US one to be sure, but if you can wait to after launch, the questions about the pal version will be answered pretty quickly.

No-one seems to know the answer to this for sure and I don't think Nintendo have made any announcements about it, however the conjecture I've read suggests that the Wii will respect region-encoding on GameCube games. I see no reason why it shouldn't.

So if this conjecture is correct then: no, you won't be able to play your US games on a PAL Wii.

Yes. The pointing functions of the wiimote are detected by the sensor bar so you just position this underneath your projection screen.

        Stroller.

          cheers

I didnt realise that the wii remote used a sensor bar although on though, I do remeber!

Like I said, I have been out of games for about 14 months and only had my DS and PSP really and sold my 360 a few months ago!

So please excuse any stupid questions!

Official US release date is 19 November. It's pretty certain that the US will get their games ahead of us, don't know how big the difference will be between releases though, likely a few months.

Nintendo has always been really bad at keeping europe waiting, usually because they do a top notch localisation job.

                I'd just go US

Quite a few devs can manage to get their games out in the US and Europe within a week or 2 of each other on the 360. If Nintendo are serious about Europe, they should be able to manage the same. As for localisation stuff, they should just ditch 50Hz all the way, afaik they haven't been afraid to in the past.

US is still by far the safest bet, I may end up with a PAL Wii myself but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I'm still dreaming that one day the UK and US will be in the same region for games, after all we speak the same language and most UK TVs are NTSC compatible these days

I am tempted t just go with the US machine.

Its not a new ballgame to me as I have been importing consoles since the launch of the PS1.

But I do like the idea of being able to just roll up to Game and swap a game/buy a game etc and selling games is easier to.

I bet I go with the US launch though!!

cheers for all your help guys

It would be handy if someone could just sum up the pros and cons of importing against not importing and put it up as a sticky or something.
