Going to be getting myself a pre modded ps2 soon and was wondering what chip i should go for? Any of them play EVERYTHING? I'll be playing pal, jpn,us ps2 games but also lots and lots of jpn, pal,us ps1 games too. Also is there anyway of forcing 50hz boarderd pal ps1/2 games full screen/60hz? Thank you.

the matrix infinity does all those sorts of things, i dont know about ps1 games though. i hardly play pal ps1 games, but theres an option to pick pal 60, ntsc, pal and color output, i dont know if it applies to ps1 games but ntsc ps1 games are centered on the screen unlike other chips. It also has up to date firmware. i highly recommend it, i got mine from here http://www.ghost2fitter.co.uk/

Pretty much all current PS2 mods are the same, with their own special features.
DMS4 Pro, for example, has a built-in HD-Loading application called ToxicOS. It can force 60Hz, but you have to manually set it in the configuration.
I believe the O2 can force 60Hz on startup by simply holding a button. Maybe the Matrix Infinity and Ghost2 can do that as well?

I've got a DMS4 Lite in mine. It doesn't support all the HD loading stuff that the Pro does, but my PS2's a slimline anyway so it wouldn't do me any good.
It boots everything - I have PS2 and PS1 games from all three regions which all boot perfectly - and it has the ability to force PAL/NTSC/PAL60. I've had issues with certain PAL games running too fast though, so I'll second the idea that you're better off replacing your crap PAL conversions with NTSC versions.
There are another couple of nifty features that you might find useful like the ability to skip the Sony and PlayStation logos and go straight into the game. I don't use it because I like the chip to work transparently but it works if that's your thing.Last edited by NekoFever; 19-09-2006, 17:14.

One example is PAL FFX, which totally buggers up all the cutscenes and voices when forced into 60Hz.
Best getting the JPN 'FFX International' version of that, as that has all the extras not found in the US game, has English voices/text and it (obviously) 60Hz.
Worth pointing out these mods can force PAL60 as well as NTSC - proves the PS2 CAN do PAL60.

I'd highly recommend the Matrix Infinity. The DMS4 has problems with PS1 games in the newer slimline models and it doesn't look like they're bothering releasing an updated firmware either (Been over 4-5 months)
That being said on the older slimline models and the models previous the DMS4 is a quality chip.
I've got a Matrix Infinity in my V14 pstwo and had Zero problems with any games, ps1 and ps2 etc.

Team Toxic = DMS, under a different guise.
But the PS2 'scene' has been quiet of late. I can say I've never had any problems with my DMS4 EZI Pro, but then I have a V7 machine.
If you don't wanna use a HDD, there's no reason to get the DMS4 specifically anyway...
Matrix Infinity and O2 have basic VGA mode for FEW titles, but this is made reduncant by the forthcoming Blaze HDTV Player which promises 480p and VGA with 92 % compatibility rating thus far.
