    VGA Switch box recommendations please

Three days in and I'm bored of switching my monitor lead between the PC & 360, anyone got any suggestions for suitable "switch boxes" please.

    Ta.

i use this as i`m in a similar situation to yourself :

no noticable drop in quality when switching between the 2.

thanks Keith, what resolution you running ?, was worried by this bit

Please note that this design of Switchbox is only suitable for resolutions up to 800x600. When used at resolutions higher than 800x600 loss of video quality is to be expected. For resolutions higher than 800x600 we recommend the 2 Way Hi-Resolution Switchbox.

i run the 360 @ the highest settings (1366 x ? i can`t remember offhand) available from the dashboard and the pc resolution is set at its highest possible, which is 1440 x 900. the monitor in question is an Acer AL1916W, so a fairly recent model. anything else let me know and i`ll try & help as much as i can.

            would`nt surprise me.

here`s a couple of pics of the unit itself :

            360 - Monitor - PC

it`s not the prettiest thing, but it certainly does the job for me. i used to have the 360 running on the old 32" toshiba @ 480p, but would`nt swap over now, the clarity from the 360 is amazing via VGA. the big plus is it does`nt upset my PC setup either.

I'm thinking of getting one of these myself. Could be an interesting project for a case mod. Are there any that are a little bit prettier.

Sorry to piggyback the thread, but your right, it is a pain in the arse changeing cables everytime I wanna play the 360.

thanks Keith, will order one in a minute, cheers.

Bootmonster - all these VGA/Printer etc switchboxes are all well ugly (and fairly bulky) but for a tenner you won't can't complain.

The above switcher works for me, but ONLY when I use this little 6inch cable I have... using long, or low quality, cables results in ghosting.

Perhaps someone could recommend some AV-quality VGA cables?

I have a similar ghosting problem with that unit, but mine's a 4-way switch. What cable can I buy to prevent it?

I have the same problem with the 4-way unit, I asked twice already on here for short, high quality vga cables but no one seems to know.

Add me to the list too. I have the 4 way switcher of that model, and there's serious ghosting (mainly visible on my PC desktop) even with high quality belkin cables.

SO whats the score with this then? I really should get a VGA switch box as I'm always changing over between PC and DVD player for my TV, and I want to use my 360 on VGA too but all that cable swapping puts me off! I have the cable sitting here, waiting to use it. Bought it months ago, just need a decent switch box that doesnt ghost!!

Is it only the 4 way one that ghosts or does the 2 way splitter do it also?

I didn't order the one tbm linked to above in the end, bought one (a 2 port one) from local Maplin's for ?12.99 and works a treat no ghosting etc.

Still looks like something made 25 years ago though. Surely switchboxes are long overdue a makeover

Hmmm, I had a quick search through Maplin.com and couldnt find anything I thought would be good for a decent price. I seen a nifty looking DVI switched though for ?60 which would work for me perfectly, as I wouldnt need to use the VGA>DVI adaptor I use!

Still alot of money though, and I dont want to even waste the ?10 on the retro looking one everyone else buys if theres ghosting in it.
