Animal Crossing time mess-up

I've lent my mother my original DS and Animal Crossing. She tells me that she was playing the game today, but the in-game time somehow became 'messed up' - it's currently 6AM ish in the game and it's now just before 8PM in reality. I had assumed it was something to do with the DS's internal clock, but the clock on my old DS and my new DS Lite are both correct, and yet the game itself has the 'wrong' time when played on both machines. Any ideas how I can correct it? Not sure what to do as I bought AC:WW on launch but never got around to playing it(!). Thanks.

Erm to be honest I dont know why it's doing this, it should be displaying the time on your DS/DSLite

Its easy to correct, just tap the telephone before you get out of bed & select the time adjust option then just correct it to the time you want.

If that dosent fix it then im stumped.
