    adding speakers to my telly

i just moved into a new place (in lovely wakefield )

i took my old tv with me, it's a pretty old philips blackline (about 7 years old) but it's really good quality and massive to boot... it has outputs for a couple of speakers (i can't afford a tv of similar size new) so i'm wondering if any of you could give me some advice, mainly on adding some speakers to add some loudness...

    cheers.

Are they really speaker outputs? Or phono outputs to an external amplifier? Probably the later, so you get and amp and speakers and plug the TV into it. This is what I do. The speakers in my TV are turned off. I wish you could buy CRT screens without speakers. Smaller TV for same size screen. And cheaper presumably. No need for the manufacturers to worry about magnetic shielding either.

i just presumed they were speaker outputs... there's a left and a right, so it probably is for an amp. so now i need that as well, do you have any recommendations?

i want a decent setup (loud) without breaking the bank (doesn't everyone? ) but truth be told (like you didn't guess anyway) i have no clue about this kinda thing.

      thanks.

I'm afraid as charlesr rightly says they are fixed audio outputs to connect to an external amp, i am guessing you have a stereo in your living room ??
If you have just connect the audio outputs on the back of your tv to the AUX/Phono input on your stereo.
Then everything you have connected to your tv will play through your stereo, however if you want to go the whole hog and get a cheap amp/receiver with PLII and DD/DTS onboard decoding i would check out Richer Sounds for the cheapest prices in the UK.
I would personally go for a Yamaha amp and whatever speaker package tickles your fancy(always get a demo before you buy)

If your on a budget this cannot be beaten

Yeah, if you want to I'd suggest Richer Sounds and getting a PL2 receiver/amp.

Marantz, Yamaha and Denon are your best options (in that order IMHO)

I have a Marantz 4200 and the thing is just incredible. The best ?200 I'll ever spend IMO
