    HDTV question

I've been looking at monitors that support 1080p and ive found one with:

    DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP

If I were to put say a PS3 through it via a HDMI cable converted to DVI would it accept the signal?

also its resolution is 1920x1200 does that mean its 16:9?

    thanks peeps

Been interested in this myself, as there are plenty of 1920x1200 PC monitors at reasonable sizes (as small as 24" for the Samsung 244T).

With the 360 and PS3 now supporting 1080p, and depending on if it accepts a 480i overr Component for Wii, these do look like good choices.
I mentioned these in the LCD topic, but no-one seemed very interested.

HDMI and DVI are essentially the exact same connection except that HDMI can carry the sound signal as well, and it always supports HDCP. DVI is video-only and only supports HDCP when specified, which this one obviously does. It'll take an HDMI connection through a DVI adaptor fine, and then you'll just need to use optical or basic AV cables for the audio.

1920x1200 is 16:10 which is the case for a lot of monitors. Chances are you'll either get a slightly stretched image or small black bars on the top and bottom. 1920x1080 is the 16:9 1080p resolution.

Most 1920x1200 monitors are high-end enough to display at 16:9 image in correct AR,withiut stretching.

It's a serious consideration for me right now, as sub-32" 1080p TV's look a ways off.

You can specify 1:1 ratio with the Dell.

After Xmas is over, it'll likely be top of my shopping list, though I'm expecting motr 1080p-capable screens to appear once the PS3 is out.

Will 360 output properly in VGA on this monitor?

Is it worth going 1080p at 24"?

I have a 26" 1366X768 HDTV at the moment, by taking the 2" drop in size and the large resolution increase will I get much better quality? On paper I ought to, but I've heard stuff about how 1080p is unnecessary at under 37"
I know there are 1080p screens at the other end of the scale but I can?t really fit more than 26? in my setup, I could possibly manage 32? but I can?t see anything that offers 1080p at those sizes.
The two screens I'm looking at are:
                      Dell
                      BenQ

I reckon I can sell my 26LX2R for ?450ish, thus it'd be up to ?200 to make the upgrade, is it worth it?
The screen will be used purely for PS3, 360, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, upscaled DVDs and the Wii. The Wii is the main thing that's making me feel like sticking with my current screen, 480p scaled to 1080p isn't going to be pretty, let alone 480i deinterlaced and scaled to 1080p

I disagree with any suggestion that you cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 26" screen - I sure as hell can, just like I can see the jaggies on 720p 360 games.

The BenQ FP241W looked interesting, then I looked up the specs elsewhere -

                          Response Time: 16ms( 6ms GTG)
Overclockers UK omit the black to white response time which is naughty! 6ms is the Gray To Gray value.

I'm personally looking to get one of the new 1080p Sharp TVs (LC37GE1E or LC37XD1E) as 24" seems a bit small for the living room TV.

I've just read a few reviews, the BenQ sounds killer:

                            Samsung 244T
                            Dell 2407FP
                            BenQ FP241W

I think I'll just wait until next year and see what the 360 looks like at 1080p and what the Wii looks like scaled to 1080p.

Why is 16:10 so popular with PC displays? You'd think more of them would be pushing 16:9 these days.
