    jap ps1 on uk sp2

Hi, sorry if there is already a thread on this but i coudlnt find one. Anyway I recently bought a jap version of Ridge Racer Revolution for the ps1 and I'm trying to play it on my slimline ps2. The ps2 has been modded with a flip-topp and I've got Swap Magic 3 but I can't get it to work. Does anyone have any idea why this might be (it works fine with my imported ps2 games) or what I need to do to play it. Any help would be genuinely appreciated.

    Thanks.

Swap Magic does not work for PS1 games, you need another boot disc called Breaker Pro.

Swap Magic will only supports the booting of PS2 imports on a PAL PS2. PS1 imports don't work with it.

You'll need to use something like a Breaker Pro boot disc instead.

I had no joy with breaker pro at all, but only last night discovered that my specially modified PS2 allowed me to play US and JPN PS1 games. Einhander is the roxor. Best shooter I've played since R-Type in Bedford High Street Arcade in 1986. I'd suggest you try that route, basically.

ModChipStore has it and I've seen them recommended before.

Not sure what chip I got in my PS2, it's second hand and the seller didn't know but it won't let me play import PS1 games unless I boot it up, wait for it to bring up the message saying it can't play the disc and then reset, but I have to hold the reset button for a certain amount of time for it to work - then for some weird reason it'll boot. You might be able to do this to get it working, or maybe it only applies to whatever crazy chip i've got in my machine.

It is a pain in the arse to do though, so I usually just hook up my PS1 instead.

I bought my Breaker Pro from these guys & had no probs:

                    http://www.chipspain.com/PS2/PS2-Boo...o-PS2PSOnePSX/

Same price as Modchip Store but shipping is about 6 euros less. They also accept Paypal (+3%) if you'd prefer not to use a credit card.

Yep, I use one with my Jpn PS2 but you need to make sure to get the ntsc version (works on both US & Japanese machines).

The store I linked to in my last post also sells the ntsc version .

@ Champloo: sounds like DMS 3 to me, does it behave the same way with DVD's?
Sometimes you have to hold a button when booting too...

All of the earlier auto-booting modchips were like that, Messiah, Magic etc. It's only with the current generation of PS2 mods that we've had true auto-booting mods.
