Japanese Saturn, is modding it a good idea?

Hey, i just won a japanese Saturn HST3220 on Ebay and since i already have alot of US games i need to either buy an Action Replay or buying a chip. First question: Can i backup my games and play them with Action Replay, the reason i?m asking is that i value my games alot and have had a habit of backing them up and playing the copies since the psx days.

It?s not really necessary but it sure feels safer than swapping mint discs in and out all the time

What do you think i should do? Go with a modchip or Action Replay?
How much is a modchip for saturn and how much is an Action Replay?

Im pretty (90%) sure that the Action Replay won't boot backups.

With the Saturn, region switching and backup playing are handled separately.

Action Replays / 4 in 1 carts / Toggle Switches all get round the region block.

Gruce is right about the AR cart. The modchip is the only way to play CDR's. It does not change the region of your Saturn at all.

ok, thanks for your input. Well i?m gonna go with the Action Replay i guess, i was kinda hoping the modchip solved the regionlocks but we can?t always have it our way i guess.
