What is a Ps Plug-Mod Card for the PS1?

Having a clear out and found this in a box of PS1 stuff. Just wondered what it was?

Is it a thing you plug in the parallel port on the back? If so, they're little devices that lets you run imports/backups, use AR codes, browse the movies on game discs etc.

With my old one (mine was called PSHacker, there were lots of them, most of them basically the same with the GUI changed), you just had to put a spring in to keep the lid sensor down. Then turn on the machine with an original/domestic disc in the drive (to do the security check). Disc would stop spinning.. swap for your import/backup and play.
