    DVD Writer Problem

I was using DVD Decrypter to burn an ISO and realised that I had picked the wrong one. I used the abort function and Decrypter continued to run for a while then I had a quick powercut and the computer rebooted.

Now the DVD drive won't read any DVDs and is scratching any I put in while making a clicking noise (technical I know!). It appears it is trying to finish off whatever Decrypter was doing when it tried to abort.

I can get CDs to work but only after the drive has clicked a few times and scratched the disks and even if I close the drive without a disk in it it tries to look for a disk.

Is there any way to fix this?

If you have a computer tower, it may be worth taking out the dvd writer and taking it too a computer shop. Some internet cafe's have computer repairs. I think if you explain, they can test and it may be that you might have to purchase a new one. If they repair it, then it may not be so expensive.

It is best not to try and fix the problem ourselves because sometimes it can make things worse. Taking out the dvd writer drive is a piece of cake. Open up tower and you will find two or three connecters to it. Pull these out carefully and slide the unit toward the front. Not toward the interior.

The head was probly damaged when the machine died, The best thing to do is just to swap it out. it is probably not worth repairing. They seem to be going for about ?20 now
