Help! PS2 RPG Goodness or 360 Gaming Goodness...?

Hello all!

I've been mooching and posting a bit on this thread for a little while now and am thoroughly enjoying it here. And seeing as the majority of you seem like a sensible helpful bunch, (insert joke/laugh here), I thought I would ask for your assistance.

Basically my issue is this... do I stick to playing my 360, seeing as I'm enjoying Oblivion at present and have pre-ordered Gears of War and Viva Pinata so should be occupied for some time to come... also thinking about PSU...

Or, do I give in to my craving and go back to my US PS2 to indulge in some never played, never touched RPG goodness? I love my RPGs and have all these in my collection waiting to be played...

...which would occupt a just a little bit of time I reckon. My wife laughs at retro stuff and asks why people even bother, (she's wowed with the now fancy graphics you see... ho hum...), so she's not much help.

Yes, I know there are a lot of other PS1 & PS2 RPGs to be added to my lil collection, don't worry, that is happening as far as finances allow!

Damn... why is time sharing between the wife, (I better put her first in the list, she reads my posts... and I might get a smack...), quality TV, Film, Games, Music and friends such a bloody nightmare?! Argh!

Tough question, if you never played FF VII you really should play that. That said, it's probably more fun to play newer games right now, for instance PSU, if you wait too long everyone will be very high level and lot's of people will have moved on to newer games so I'd definitely recommend playing that while it's hot.

So here's my recommendation, play PSU and Gears when they are released, untill then spend more time with Oblivion and once you're done with all those play FF VII .

You sound exactly like my girlfriend, she has like 10 PS1 RPGs that she has never played (or never finished as I have just been corrected).

She never will either, as each one needs 40 solid hours of dedication.
Add that to the increasing number of PS2 Rpgs that she wants to play and you easily have over 1000 hours worth of RPG turn based boredom.

If you've got games in your collection that you haven't played but want to I'd put a halt on buying any new games, whether ps2 or 360.

Games like Gears of War arn't gonna sell out and disappear forever......therefore personally i'd cancel my pre-orders and play what you've already got.

Just think about it this way, By the time you've played through those lovely ps2 gems Gears of War will more than likely be a budget title....therefore you'l save money!!!

However if you're one of these people that are not happy unless you've got the latest thing then it's a touch choice.....as there'l always be "a new 360 game" that'l take your fancy and you'l end up with a huge backlog of "When I around to it" games.

Here's an idea:
Play 2 different genre games at the same time. So buy your 360 games and try to balance out GoW with a PS2 rpg or even Oblivion. I find this works for me as I can get tired after a good 4/5 hours on one game then chop n change for veriety.

Do yourself a big favour and play Star Ocean: TTEOT. It really is fantastic, one of the few RPG's i've actually enjoyed levelling up in.

Thanks very much for the advice guys! Seems the two of you are sort of thinking along the same lines. I shall definately give it a go. Looks like it's back to 4 hours of sleep a night for me from now on... Still gotta squeeze in wife time and US TV time every week night!

But the GOW & VP Limited Editions are calling to me, and I'd hate to miss out on them to only see them on Ebay for stupid money. Also, they are pretty much the only titles on the 360 I'm interested in for a future purchase, bar Lost Planet. That said, if I don't pick up the RPGs that are still attracting me for the PS2, I'll end up paying stupid money for them too! Hmmm... much sharing of time between games is a must then... 70/30 PS2/360...

Play FF8 and Vagrant Story as they are the best on your list, then get yourself some GoW action. Its a big problem when these games take so many hours to play through, id deffo say dont try and get through all the JRPG's one after the other, they play well but the cliched storylines will do ya head in lol.
