silly question about ps2(pal) and prog scan

I have a pal ps2 and its connected via composite(dont laugh) to my plasma, want an rgb scart but cant be arsed to keep swapping scarts over on my telly to take advantage of the 1 rgb scart socket!! (who designs these things) if i get the official prog scan cable will this display an rgb picture on my setup (i have a spare component input on my amp you see)dont want to get a ntsc ps2 as i only use it for a couple of games.

    cheers

get the prog scan cable as soon as you can!

on my lcd, ps2 over component (even though it's running at the same res as rgb/composite) looks stunning compared to composite and even the mighty rgb, although that's just cos my lcd was fussy like that.

although only a few games actually support prog scan, all of them will work in the regular mode (480i) over component, and you'll save the rgb scart socket for something else that may not have component output, like a dreamcast, video recorder, sky box, etc.

if you do buy it though, you'll have to go into the system configuration in the ps2 browser and change the output from RGB to Y/Pb/Pr or whatever it's called (there's only the two options and one is rgb so it's obvious ) but you'll need to do this with the composite cable (composite isn't affected by this option so you're fine) plugged in, not the component cable, or else you'll get a black screen. good thing about ps2 is that you can swap cables while it's running.

p.s. i bought GAME's own ps2 component cable first, then got the official one a few weeks ago and i can't tell the difference (although my lcd is only 19") so you could try that as it's only a fiver, whereas the official sony one is harder to track down and more expensive

I'm surprised people are ordering the component cables on the verge of the Xtender being released, i'm going to wait and see what that can do first.

dunno but i think chunky may mean the xploder hdtv thingy that upscales your ps2 games to higher resolutions:
