Laptop Sudden Death

[Supergoal]

My 1500 quid laptop decided to not turn on properly ever again yesterday and it's still only 11 months old!

Basically while using it crashed so I had to turn the power off manually and then restart as normal.. However upon hitting the power button, nothing came on apart from the power icon on the LED display. no fans, no screen, no nothing....

Problem is I can't send it back for a check up and to be fixed as the warranty is valid in the UK (since I bought it there) and now I live in Japan....

It may be rather vague, but would anyone have an idea as to what is wrong? Or maybe you had a similar experience. I've got a dreaded feeling that it's the motherboard.

Could well be the motherboard.
I guess the battery's charged and all that?

If you really wind up having no luck, I'd bit the bullet ship it back to the UK sharpish, as out of warranty repairs are usually dead expensive. You'll probably thank yourself in the long run.

Is it made by a well-known manufacturer ?

If so, it's worth getting in touch with their office in Japan as it may (or should ?) be covered by the Manufacturers warranty no matter where you are in the world.

Should? As in the PS3 should be in warranty in the UK if bought in JPN. Somehow I see some flaw there given the latest news.

Well, sometimes they are. Apple's laptops, for instance, have a worldwide warranty vs. their desktops only having a local warranty.

It's just a UK company unfortunately. I did all the battery tests and PSU unit checks etc. I have removed the ODD and the HDD and the RAM still no luck. The company in question told me to also take out and put back in the VGA card but I can't see the point, surely if the CPU, RAM, HDD, VGA card were broken, the computer would still come on to the black dos looking screen and give some beeps or error messages right?

All I can think of is like Magnakai said, the motherboard could have gone.

Also about shipping it back to the UK I think it would cost me a few hundred pounds in courier costs alone! Also the worry of it physically being carried such a huge distance and being broken more....

It's going to be a tough..
