    PCE CD-Rom2 issue.

Don’t know if anyone has knowledge of CD-Rom2 issues, but my lovely briefcase set up has developed an issue. And a major one at that.

It powers up as it should, laser is moving on the rail fine and discs spinning as they should, but absolutely nothing else. Won’t play games or audio cd’s, so would I be right in assuming the laser itself must be dead?

Been trying to search for a replacement but can only find ones for the Super CD-Rom. Any help would be much appreciated!

Definitely a dead laser. If you can hear the laser trying to seek the data then you maybe able to get some more time out of it by upping the laser's power a touch. Be careful as you don't want to turn the wrong pot and bugger up the beam's focus.
If the laser is not trying to seek data, then it's trully buggered.

Funny thing is lasers just don't die. For example, my Hitachi Hi-Saturn laser is going as it has started taking longer to load, sometimes skips music or just won't load. Luckily for that console I have the Saitator so I just make a Cue Bin file of any game and play it though that.

      Yeah, I thought as much.

its not that I use it that often as I have a Super HD System 3 connected to another PCE, but I love knowing I have a fully operational briefcase set up for when I want the full old school experience.

I’ll probably just keep an eye for another functional one and switch it into the minty shell.
