    Final Fantasy VII any good?

Just wondering if the PC version is much cop compared to the original PS1 version?

From what I remember its a pretty faithful conversion - the FMV looks a bit dodgy at the higher resolution, but its fine aside from that.

I imagine you'll have a complete nightmare trying to get it to run on a modern PC though.

There are some patches you can download to get it to run on XP as well as some music updates and other random things people have made.

The only differences are (afaik) that the characters now have mouths (lol), and the various grammatical errors found in the PSX version were cleaned up. Apart from that, you'd find it much easier just to play the PSX version nowadays - the PC version is limited to 640x480 and can be a right pain to get working correctly.

If you can manage to get it running, it's great - there are some nice high res fonts, and the 3D stuff looks a lot better, but you're probably best off with the PS1 game.

I've not been able to get it running properly on any system I've owned since I had a 166MHz Pentium, 32mb RAM and a 12mb Voodoo 2.

            Cheers for the replies guys
I may just try the PS1 version in an emulator, by the sounds of things that might be an easier option

You will HAVE to download the fan-made music patches, otherwise you'll be listening to crappy midi.

Easier to just stick to the PS1 game mate... since the game uses prerendered backgrounds, it's not really enhanced by higher resolutions (as the backgrounds will be the same resolution regardless).

I don't envisage having any way of playing PAL/US PS1/PS2 games in the near future bar emulation unfortunately

Are the copies being sold on ebay originals? They all seem to be some sort of Asian release published/distributed by EA. Examples:

                1

                2

                3

ePSXe can emulate the PS1 game perfectly.

I remember this, I finished it right the way through. It was great at the time, but it was designed for GLide; 3DFX's native drivers. I know there are patches but it might be a fanny on to get working.

I'd recommend going for the original, then you're guaranteed not to run into a gamebreaking bug midway through.
