    Thanks for explaining. I take it then that the HDMI over USB-C operates just the same as when plugged into the laptop direct. I had assumed as it didn’t mention HDMI in the specs that it wouldn’t work over USB-C but maybe they only specify for DP.

      The HDMI only works over HDMI as far as I see it, the USB-C is your Display Port, as long as the monitor has a Display Port connection then you should be ok. You may have to obtain the appropriate cable, depending on your monitor that could be a Display Port to USB-C or USB-C to USB-C.

      For example the ports on my 4K monitor are;
      2 x HDMI
      USB-C upstream/DisplayPort Alt Mode with Power Delivery (power up to 65W)
      USB 3.2 Gen 1 downstream
      USB 3.2 Gen 1 downstream with Battery Charging 1.2
      Audio line-out

        Thanks again. I will have to see how it goes. My monitor does have 1 display port input and I have a cable somewhere but I will need some sort of adapter as you say, cos there’s no DP output on the laptop itself. My monitor is really, really old at this point, maybe 15 years but I am getting another one soon. Maybe connection to that will be straightforward.
