Animal Crossing Amibo cards

Hi all
Chloe is finally getting in to Animal Crossing on the Switch & is now harping on about the Cards & stuff to go with it

Now this is all new to me so can anyone shed some light on what they are & where I can get them from?

Not sure on the pricing as during the pandemic people lost their minds and single cards for popular villagers were going for way too much but it maybe more sane now, only places i can think of are going to be amazon/ebay & maybe the uk nintendo store. There's 5 series of booster packs each with i think 6 cards per pack but different regions got different numbers in the pack so i can't remember off top of my head as i went with japan but there's 100 cards in a series as well as a single pack which contains a complete set of 6 cards all based on sanrio characters. theres also one final set called welcome new leaf that work with the 3DS game but these also work in the switch version of the game but there's not 100 in this set but i can't remember off top of my head it's a very small series of a couple of dozen cards,

As for what they do, they are used to summon the character on the card to invite them to come live in your village usually you are left to chance on who will turn up on your island but with every single villager having a card you can have all your favourites living there if you have their card you can also use the phone in the coffee shop to invite them there or harvs photo studio where you can invite a bunch and do photo shoots. The 6 pack of sanrio cards are slightly different as those also allow you to get one of 6 sets of sanrio themed furniture added to the game to buy from the catalogue and thats pretty much it. If you have the happy home paradise expansion you can also use the cards to design houses for the villagers on the cards too if i remember correctly.

If you don't care about genuine amiibo cards there's a whole bunch of copies out on ebay & amazon either full sized replica plastic cards with nfc chips in them or even small replicas about the size of a switch cart that function the exact same way. There's also copies in various forms like round disks with generic artwork but a lot of the copies look like the normal cards.

Depends if you want to do genuine or not as getting a genuine complete set is astronomically expensive, hell you could buy a ps5 in comparison with the amount needed lol. Your best bet is to quiz her on what her favourite villagers are you can find full mugshot galleries of them all online then go on ebay and search the villager cards out individually.

There are also amiibo animal crossing figures that basically work the same as the cards but there's only a small selection of those they werent insane enough to do one for every character. Mainly just the special characters like isabelle and nook ect but those special characters that run the facilities can't be invited to live in houses but can be interacted with via the amiibo functionality to some degree like inviting to coffee shop ect.

The actual amiibo figures for AC are beautiful and I’d recommend them if you can find them. In terms of functionality for the cards, the only huge plus for me is that it’s a way to get a specific village in your town. And if you’re really itching for that one specific villager, people do sell them individually. As noted above, getting a complete set is incredibly difficult and really pricey and really for die hard collectors. And you’re not really missing out if you don’t get any but, if you can get a few packs, they’re just a bit of fun to have.

Ah, this was what I was wondering about. My daughter wants to get a specific character back who used to live on her island. She mentioned getting an Amiibo card to get him back but I wasn't sure how genuine the cards on eBay were and whether they would actually work. yup those are the things indeed, the nfc chips on the cards contain the same data as the real thing so they work exactly the same.

Have been chatting with Chloe today about what she wants & think some of the KO cards as she just wants a select few villagers in the game so will do with the fakes
