    Networking suggestion

I have my internet provider's router acting as DHCP server for my home network. it works OK, but there's one thing I don't like: it really doesn't save static routing assigned to a MAC address; or better, it does, but if a device doesn't connect regularly, the router forgets the static routing as well as other stuff (like device name). Things still work, but at times I have to fish for a device's IP address to connect to it.

So, I was thinking to get either a managed network switch or a second router from which I would disable the router part and use it as a managed switch of sorts.

Suggestions on which solution is best, and on which device to get? I'm looking at at least eight ports, if some (or all) of them are 2.5GB, the better.
