    Mini snes wont work??

hi, i have just bought a mini snes from the states and for some reason it wont work, i have 100 percent assurance from the seller that it worked when it left there and i will assume he isnt lying as his ebay fedback is impeccable and the auction showed the machine all rigged up. anyhows, i have simply swapped the unit for my other ntsc big snes using all same leads etc(and tried lots of other leads) and the bugger just wont come on. there doesnt seem to be an LED to even show its powering up and the tv shows no signs of movement when you reset etc so im assuming its a power issue. i have ordered a gamebit to take it apart so when that comes i will have a look. i have tried RF leads also. and on two tv's, one old school crt and one hd lcd samsung.

any pointers on were i should be looking? i am au fait with the use of a multimeter etc and soldering iron so im not afraid of anything technical

    thanks al ot,
    neil

Well what are you using to connect it to your TV?

You can test power from the DC socket using your multimeter, just one prong where the voltage should be, and one to ground, set multimeter to 20v or something.

SNES' normally have a small picofuse in them, I would check the fuse, prong on either end, set to 2000 ohms, to check for continuity. No continuity means that the fuse has gone and needs to be replaced. If the fuse has gone then you could remove it and bridge the points with a small piece of wire, but of course this is only temporary, to be safe you need to solder in a replacement fuse (I think I have some suitable ones)

Hope this limited information helps in some way.. Good luck.

      hi , thanks a lot,
i have been doing some digging on the old fuse and am praying this is it, i have tried every nintendo scart lead ever made in every kind of socket loL so i no its not a video issue its currently in the white red yellow av ports on tv, until i get my gamebit driver i cant prove it though. one thing i have found out is that when my big ntsc snes is turned on i get voltage across two pins on the cart socket approx 5v, when the jr is on i get nOthing so im sure its power(dam why didnt they fit an LED for a bit of guidance) are the fuses an off the shelf at maplins job and does anyone know if the jr definately has one?

      cheers

        after a bit of googling

there is a fuse according to a post here.

Quick guide to checking a dead snes here.

        sounds like it probably does,

hi, thanks for that, although i have just finished fixing the puppy, although i managed to blow a fuse on my uk snes while i was testing lol,
there is indeed a tiny fuse in the junior much smaller than the bigger models picofuse, this is a little square thing that says 1500 on it.
i took it out and replaced it with some temp wire just to see if it works.

also a slight revelation regarding the junior model. a 9v 1300ma uk power supply powers up a big ntsc snes(with the right plug). however it does not power up a junior ntsc snes even though they are rated the same. to get it working i have used a mk1 megadrive 10v 1200ma.

suich relief, just a shame iv shagged my uk snes, as well as blowing the fuse i was tampering with the 62pin connector and bent a couple of pins oops
