    Download speeds

When I go onto a site eg : BT Broadband, it tells me that I would get a download speed of 8Mbps. When I had the 2mbps service, the max download speed I got was 235Kbps which is a little strange. A while after that, we moved to TalkTalk who never gave us any services then on Thursday, we moved to AOL getting their silver package and currently using dial-up until next monday-thursday. AOL are telling me that I can get a max download speed of 750Kbps

Now what confuses me is that with BT I could only get 235Kbps on 2MB but with AOL I can get 750Kbps with 1MB

I don't think that will be useful right now seeing as i'm on dial-up for the week.

It's a broadband speed test, it probably wont work at all with 56kbps like the Firefox speed tests.

Speaking of speeds though, I'm getting concerned with my 'up to 8mbps' connection... it's all over the place... at its highest I was getting 12mbps, but it can drop as low as 400kbps, which isn't very nice when hosting on Live...

It's upto 8mbps and the highest you got was 12?!?

Well what happens is that when you order 8mbps broadband with almost any company, the speeds will be all over the place within the first 10 days, this happens because the tester is looking for a stable connection.
