I got a japanese system to acompany the PAL box i already have and it turned out to be a great buy. I got it mainly for the LTD Ed senko no ronde. Also there seems to be more of a varity with Asain titles (Tetris, bomberman, wrestling, baseball, shootem ups) and being released at just over ?20 is a bonus as well.Check out the commemorative pack at play asia at the moment or try Ebay if you look hard enough you can find a genuine 1 at a cheap enough price. I got one for ?150 with a wireless controller and headset.Watch out for the scam auctions though.

      /Mr. Burns/ Excellent...

Also, does the UK machine accept any Asian or Japanese games (or more specifically, are many of the Asian/Japanese games region free?)

I don't think there are any Japanese region free games.
A reasonable number of asian games are region free and will work on a PAL machine though, mainly western stuff like Ubisoft, Activision, Eidos titles and a couple of other publishers.

I'd like to see a list on NTSC/J games that don't work on an Asian machine (I have one). ?22 for almost all games? Yes please. No beasty stepdown? Hmm, OK!

I can effectively buy twice as many games as I would if I'd got a PAL machine. That can only be a good thing. I'd only be really willing to accommodate a step-down if I came across a JPN only game that I really, really, really wanted to play.

I'm only aware of a couple.

Call of Duty 2 (US/PAL Versions) won't work on an Asian system, but they do on a Proper Japanese console.

Ditto for Shin Sangoku Musou 4 Special (JPN Version)

Both are available in dedicated Asian format though, so big deal.

That really is the biggest draw for getting a Japanese or Asian console. This November, thanks to being able to buy Asian I can get Gears of War, Viva Pinata and NHL 2K7. If I had a PAL machine it would be Gears of War and... nowt else! Or a very cheap second hand game at best

Viva Pinata is set for the 14th of November in asia, no EU release until December apparently. That'll be the fourth western game that gets an asian release before EU in the space of a month...
