    How do I update XBMC?

Basically I have a modded PAL XB and everything was done for me in terms of installing apps etc at the time. I've not updated anything on it since I've had it - a couple of years or so now.

Know absolutely nothing about how to update the software on it. But would like the latest version of XBMC in particular as the 2-year old version I have seems a bit creaky with some of the new codecs.

Is there an easy way to get the latest XBMC and other apps on it? Must be idiot proof.

    Is SLAYERS what I need?

Don't know about the "handy" discs that are out there, but if you already have XBMC, and your xbox is network accessible, you should be able to simply FTP to it and copy the latest files over.

OK, I have the ability to FTP - but where do I plonk it?

Is it not worth just overwriting the entire install with an up to date SLAYERS?

Auto Installer Deluxe Version 3.10 is your friend available from all good pikey sites and some rubbish ones as well :-)

Be careful - I tried updating before by basically copying over the new version (via FTP) and it borked the xbox. Had to format the drive and start over with the aforementioned auto-installer deluxe (which is a superb disc !)

I want XBMC2.0 on mine but haven't figured how to do it yet........

I found it extremely easy to do via FTP.
              1) download it
              2) extract archive to a folder on yer desktop
              3) FTP to xbox and delete old version (eg, E:\Apps\XBMC)
              4) FTP new version to same location
              5) If using XBMC as dashboard (teh sex), copy an extra couple of files to the C:\ root.

              Bobs yer uncle.

I'm using the latest XBMC with the skin that looks like the 360 dashboard. Holy smokes, it's damn cool. The script support is pretty good too: you can search/watch YouTube videos and movie trailers from the Apple Quicktime site. And it has a poker tournament timer built in! I am now the envy of all my friends.

How do you do number 5 exactly? Using XBMC as the dash?

Nick, the instructions are included with the T3CH builds or give me a call and I'll go through it with you.

Ono - Don't forget to delete the XBMC gamesave if updating from an older version using the MS Dash.

Anyone else please feel free to PM me regarding XBMC.

You need shortcut .xbe in the root that points to the xbmc .xbe

Some of the builds come with them. I used the "pimped" version but have used gasgiver in the past too.

                      EH?

I went through the instructions on the T3CH page, that links to Wiki, and the machine just hung on the Xbox logo.

It asked me to create a text file on my computer, so i created one in Text edit and used that.

Do you think that it was a mac created file could of been the problem?

                        Careful.
The shortcut must be renamed to something your BIOS is set to boot.
With an installation disk this is usually c:\evoxdash.xbe but could be anything so the shortcut should be renamed to this and copied to replace it.
This will obviously fail to boot if you get it wrong!
There are two versions of the shortcut. One hardcoded to E:\apps\XBMC and the other one with a corresponding .cfg file for a selectable location.
