Further Wi Fi DS problems (tearing out hair!)

got a WI-FI Link thing Dongle.

Not offical Nintendo one, but its a gooden as others have got it.

Basicly installed drivers then pluged in USB like manual said.

Installed it all and its on my computer working wirelessly and connected.

I use ADSL USB internet so at first I was worried if it work, as I'm used to Broadband by RJ45. Anyway its worked and I had Tony Hawks connect and play a few games.

But now it fails most times, I just got Mario Kart and it wont worK!

I've not changed nothing and its pissing me off.

I turned off all WEP encriptions, firewall off on the wireless and it still wont workl!??!

When I setup a connection with the DS it finds it, and has full bars for connection. Then it gets to testing the connection and just fails!!!!!!!!

    Error 52000 cant find IP!.

I enterd in the IP manually on the DS and the subnet mask but I don't have any gateway or DNS ips on the wireles to put on the DS manually.

My setup is basicly the Wi-Fi dongle in USB, installed fine etc.
    ADSL Tiscali internet thru USB.

    No router.

    Whats going on
Currently the Wirelss is working fine Strength Excellent and connected.

The wireless when DS seeks it goes to Signal Excellent, but once it tries to test the connection it fails.
    Whats up?!?!?!

What must I do to get the DS working with Wi FI?!?!?!

    Thanks

    Just did a test.

Did not connect to the net and the WI FI still connected?!?!

So i got my DS out and scanned and it found the WI FI.... Even though I had not internet access.

So when it came to testing the Wi FI on the DS it still failed.... like useal.

I'm guessing its failing becaise te WI FI connection dongle is connected but not to the NET.

How do i get it to the net?

Well, you'll need those - the gateway is where to send packets to if they're addressed to a machine not on the LAN (ie: the Internet). If you're using a Windows box to share the internet then it's the gateway; run `ipconfig` in a command prompt on the PC - it's likely to be something like 192.168.0.1

The DNS is needed to convert domain names - like essential.gameserver.nintendo.com - to IP addresses. You can just enter your ISP's name servers here - phone their tech support & ask for the IP addresses of them.

      Stroller.

In case the Techies at Tiscali prove useless or anything, try: Start>>Run>>cmd>> and then type in: ipconfig/all

It should have your DNS IP there.

          Tiscali's DNS are:

          Primary: 212.74.112.66 and
          Secondary: 212.74.112.67

I use the Nintendo dongle on Tiscali so I didn't have to do any of this pissing around, although I did have to put the DNS addresses into my 360 to make it connect to live. It could be a similar problem you have, where the connection to the net is open but the DS just doesn't know where to look for the server.

            ok im lost.

Under my Wireless connection propaties are set to obtain it all automatic which used to connect but if I do that now it wont at all.
If I enter any made up IP and subnet mask then it connects but still I have problems with DS connecting.

If i click manual and enter in the ip/subnet mask, dns of tiscali from ipconfig it gives errors.

If I put all the details from ipconfig in my ds then it still dont work.

wow Im so dam confused and lost.
            LOL

If you pop over to nintenowifi.co.uk they have a really good tech support section with a search box that explains error codes and walkthroughs on how to fix the most common problems.

The 52000 error code means your DCHP settings are incompatible, but if you pop over to this page there is a list of specific routers and their settings, and also instructions on how to configure the DS manually.

Just out of interest what wifi device are you using?

Can you use the Nintendo USB Connector with any other device but the DS? I thought that was not possible.

WazMeister, are you by any chance using Bitdefender?
For some strange reason, it had to be removed from my computer for the WIFI connector to work.

I bought Wi Fi Link usb connector off ebay.

I was told it works by others.

It uses a app called WL Utility which has all wep settings, connection settings etc.

I think the problem here is my actual WI FI says connected but i dont think its connected to the net?

No no no you've got me wrong, I don't use the dongle to connect the 360! I was just saying I had a similar problem with my 360 where I could connect to the PC but not the internet, and had to put those DNS addresses in to make it work.

I know whats wrong udner Bridger Adaptor it dont list my USB modem.

I read up that under there i must choose the device which is used to connect to the internet being my ehternet card or a usb modem supplied by isp.

Nothing is in my list... so what I do?

I don't think your modem is the problem; I use the cheap and nasty USB one Tiscali sent me and it works fine.

I think the problem is either: 1) your firewall or antivirus software, or 2) your internet connection sharing settings.

                              1) If you're running a firewall or antivirus monitoring software, you need to allow any software associated with the dongle to access the internet. I use Zone Alarm and I also had to allow Generic Host Process for Win32 and Application Layer Gateway programs to access the internet as a server. You may also need to turn your settings down to allow other computers to see your PC but that will depend on your software (in ZoneAlarm you just turn the switch to 'medium' which is quite handy really).

                              2) To check your connection sharing settings, go into > control panel > network connections > Tiscali Broadband or whatever your internet connection is called. Click the 'advanced' tab and make sure the three tick boxes under 'internet connection sharing' all all ticked. The firewall one should also be ticked but don't worry about that.

If you have to change any of these settings you'll need to run your DS connection set-up from scratch because the PC will assign you an IP address when you connect to it, which probably won't be the one you've already entered.
