Program for converting divx files into a format for burning to dvds?

Right so I was thinking of getting a 'full' cd/dvd burning program but at the last minute I got cold feet. I thought to myself, hmmm ?46 for a program that does millions of things but which in reality I will only ever use one or two of its features.

So it got me thinking, are there any products out there which are either free or don't cost too much which will fulfill my needs?
Those needs are - Converting multiple divx files into a form which can then be burnt to a single dvd and played on a regular player?

    Anyone got any suggestions?

PS. Please please don't suggest virtualdub to me! I've tried and tried again to get that program to work for me but it always messes up. No more! I just want a easy few clicks and bang, done(!) type of program. 8)

If I was you, I'd use MS MovieMaker (free with Windows) to merge the video files into one long one, then WinAvi (needs to be paid for) to convert them to DVD/VCD/SVCD etc then burn them onto CD or DVD

I use Nero Digital. Easy and produces good quality without all the arsing about.

TMPGEnc let's you convert your divx files to mpeg/mpeg2 (for mpeg2 support you have to buy it, mpeg1 is free). It will most likely give you the best results but it does take a little more time to set up then those 1 click apps.

For step by step guides and info on everything converting use Doom9.

Edit: For your purposes it might be an easier solution to buy a DVD player capable of playing divx/xvid files, you can get a decent one for quite cheap nowadays.

This is it. I bought one from Lidl for 20 quid that let's me play Divx files (as long as they are simple profile less than or equal to 720x576) off of CD-R, DVD-R and about three types of memory card (compact flash, sd and something else).

          Does progressive scan too!

DVDSanta does the job too. Bit slow though.

I've used The Film Machine in the past, it's freeware; a little fiddly to begin with, but the output is just as good as Nero.

                Thanks for the help guys.

Dirty Sanchez: Will Nero Digital convert multiple videos and then burn them all to a single dvd? That is to say I'd like to put 3 video files on a single dvd so that when I play the disc in a player a menu comes up so I can choose which file to play. Is this possible?

Does this with ease, even auto sizes the files if you want to squeeze more on a disk. Nice menus that you can change/design, even animated ones from the underlying videos.

This is dead easy to use and give good results.
