Commodore 64 TV game black & white display prob

I just got one of them 30 game Commodore 64 TV plug-in things for ?3.99. Now, when I hook it up to my TV, the display is in black and white and I don't know how to get it to display in colour. I have one of those Argos scart blocks, and my TV is OK with RGB and AV so I don't know why this is happening.

    Can anyone help with this?!

What's the list of games on it? I've got a funny feeling you might have been sold an NTSC unit somehow and your TV can't handle it.

I think it's the UK one, because it's got Hewson and Imageworks games on it - Uridium, Speedball etc. - and the shop I bought it from is quite a big chain (Home Bargains.) My TV could handle NTSC Jap and American games on a chipped PS1 through RGB, and handles 60HZ DC/PS2/XBox stuff no probs so I'm puzzled.

I think the TV lead on the C64 thing is composite - one white plug, one yellow. My TV is relatively recent (7 years old) so should be able to handle composite if it can handle RGB (????!)

Sounds like your tv can display a 60hz image but doesn't support ntsc video. This isn't an issue when displaying stuff through rgb scart but other inputs (such as composite) will result in a black & white image. Not uncommon for a tv's of that kind of age.

I think you may have been sold an ntsc unit as Mayhem suggests as the US version also contains Uridium & Speedball: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...#prod_prodinfo

Thanks for the advice. The gamelist on that link is the same as the one I've got, so I must have the US version (wonder what's on the UK one...)

My TV is weird - it would allow me to play the PAL PS2 God Of War (which is not 60hz) in RGB, but when RGB was switched off, so I could flick between my PS2 and the TV, the screen was in black and white. Bizarre.

If you're interested in selling it btw, I'd take it off your hands

Only thing I'd say is my son had one of them Spiderman TV games and it would occasionally boot in B&W and sometimes in Colour so repeatedly switching it off & on again might produce some results !!!

But yeah sounds like it's NTSC !

I'm getting a new telly soon, so I'll probably hang onto it. But if you've got a Home Bargains store near you (though some stores aren't called 'Home Bargains', but have the same Red/White/Turquoise shop front) then they've got a batch of the things in at ?3.99.

Basically, they sell everything cheap - household stuff, food, medicines, deodorants, toys, booze (it's a great place for booze!)

I have that with those NES Superjoy things, sometimes they go all wobbly, sometimes black and white, sometimes as clear as a whistle.
