We need one of these, right?
Q: I tried to get online to download an update but I get error code 32004! My Wii isn't broken is it?
No, don't worry - the code for a faulty Wii is 32002. 32004 means that there is a problem with your network.
To get around this error, I went into the menu that shows you the Wii's MAC address (it's in the system settings under "Internet" > "Console Information". Every router is different, but go into your router's setup pages. On my Netgear router the option I looked for was "LAN IP Settings". Click "Add" and type in the MAC Address, then assign an IP address to it - I used 192.168.1.5 because my Xbox is already on 192.168.1.4 and my PC is 192.168.1.2.
After this I got online and downloaded the updates with no problems...
Q: What sort of stepdown transformer do I need to use an American or Japanese Wii in the UK? How powerful does it need to be?
A: The Wii's power block is rated at 58 watts (thanks Shakey_Jake) and it's obviously 110v/60hz. The stepdown with product code SC 5328 from TLC Electrical Distributors will do the job nicely: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/SC5328.html. Or you can use a UK PSU on any of them if you can get hold of one.
Q: Where can I get an American Wii console?
A: VideoGamesPlus.ca are expected to begin accepting orders for the machine again, if allocation levels permit.
Q: Are Wii games region locked?
A: Yes. You aren't going to be able to buy European or Japanese Wii games and play them on your American console.
Q: What about GameCube games? Can I use a Freeloader disc?
A: By default, an American Wii will only play American GameCube titles. The Datel Freeloader disc however is reported to work on the Wii without problems (verification needed)...
Q: Are there any problems with connecting to the online service (WiiConnect 24) from a US machine in the UK? Can I still buy Virtual Console games?
There have been no fatal problems reported. However, buying Wii points with a credit card requires a slight workaround.
Q: What about buying Wii Points? How do I buy American Wii points in the UK? Can I use a credit card and buy them through my TV or do I need to order points cards from the US?
It's been reported that importers will be able to buy Wii points, but NOT directly through the console's interface using a credit card as it lacks the necessary country options. You can't select UK as your country, therefore the credit card address won't match.
The alternative is to buy Wii Points cards from retailers. TronixWeb.com and VideoGamesPlus.ca both stock them. You simply enter the code from the card and register the points this way.
DCharlie came up with a tip that supposedly lets you buy points through the interface via a credit card. Try this at your own risk!
Q: Which Virtual Console games are worth my time? What's available to download now?
Check the Virtual Console Archive to see what's hot and what's not!
Q: Will I be able to use an RGB SCART cable bought in Europe on my American Wii?
A: No.
Q: Can I use my GameCube Component cable for the Wii?
A: No. You can't use any pre-existing Nintendo video cable on the Wii.
Will my Gamecube AV/Component/RGB cable work on the Wii?
No, the AV out port on the Wii is totally different to that on the Gamecube, therefore any old cables will not work.
I don't have WiFi, can I just plug a network cable into the Wii and use my existing network like the Xbox can?
Yes and no, the Wii does not an RJ45 standard network connector on it. Nintendo will be selling an official adaptor that plugs into one of the system's rear USB ports and allows a standard wired connection. This adaptor is not yet available but is due to be released in January for an undetermined price.
I can't wait for the official wired network adaptor, can I just use X Y Z USB Ethernet Adaptor I have seen on ebay/ebuyer/dabs etc?
No. These adaptors require specific drivers when installing on a PC, Wii does not have the ability to load these. Therefore generic PC adaptors will not work on the Wii. I recommend either waiting patiently for the adaptor, buying a cheapy WiFi router or picking up the official Nintendo USB WiFi dongle that plugs into your PC and allows both Wii & DS to access the internet.
May I copy my downloaded Virtual Console games to SD memory as a back-up?
Yes you may but they are protected so that they may only work on the system they were bought on. If you were to delete any trace of a VC game then you may re-download it as Nintendo keep a record of what games were downloaded to what system
If Virtual Console downloads are tied to my individual Wii system then what happens if it has a problem and I need a new one?
Nintendo do apparently have a resolution which would involve the customer contacting their support centre. How this affects importers we are yet to know, some white lies may be required
How do I set my Wii up? What's the best distance and position for the sensor bar? What cables do I get in the box?...etc

The Disc slot light illuminates briefly when:
The Wii console is turned on.
WiiConnect 24 is turned on and you are receiving new data, such as messages, and you have selected "Bright" or "Dim" in the "Slot Illumination" settings for WiiConnect24.
The Disc slot light does not stay illuminated during game play or using other features of the Wii console.
--------------
2) Wii uses its own power supply. You could try fudging a request to Nintendo UK for a UK Wii supply, or just use a stepdown. 100W job is sufficient. If you had one for the Cube, the Wii is only 5W more.
3) Controllers and hardware are non region specific.
4) You have access to the online functionality of the console region you've bought. So a US Wii gets access to the US store even when in the UK. I've done the online updates and downloaded a VC game so it's all good. The only tricky part will be buying points, but you can fool the system by registering as being in Brazil for buying points via your credit card before switching back to the US to actually buy stuff.
