I've got an uncle in the US atm who might be able to pick me up a Wii provided that anywhere has them in stock. Does anyone have a clue about their availability?

It seems to vary from state to state, and town to town although many retailers all over are apparently expecting stock replenishment to be plentiful this week given it's Thanksgiving over there (and 'Black Friday' on er... Friday). I'd have your uncle check the bigger stores first though as Shakey_Jake suggests as they're getting the largest shipments.

Stock of Wii is pretty much out at the moment. Extra controllers and nunchuks are pretty much impossible to find outside of eBay, likewise Zelda. There is expected to be another supply of stock in time for the Thanksgiving weekend (ie. this weekend) so might be able to get stuff then. Which is just in time for my father to go out there.
As for component cable, maybe a friendly US based person here can order them from the Nintendo store for people?Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Component cables are really the hardest thing to track down in stores over there, and second to those nunchucks and additional remotes. It differs greatly from state to state however like I say, but stock replenishment is in full swing. Another friend of mine said Toys R Us in Times Square got another big shipment in at lunchtime for example. Nintendo really seem to be on the ball.

Cool, I'll let my uncle know to try the bigger toy stores and Gamestops after Thanksgiving.
When I was in NY I went to get Gears of War in the morning before my flight and despite it being the launch date they weren't getting it in until 2pm in Gamestop on Broadway. It this "normal" or does it vary. I want to give this chap as much helpful info as possible since he hasn't a clue about this sort of stuff.

Employee reports indicate that many stores have already received more Wiis, but are saving them until Friday(a major sales holiday in the US). My advice is to have your uncle call around and be prepared to get in line early Friday morning before the stores open. It's going to be launch day all over again, with the consoles being sold out the minute the store opens.

That aside though they move everything around by truck in the US and with states bigger than many countries and a 55mph speed limit, that takes time.
