    HDMI: How and where from?

I know that this is probably an issue covered in depth before, but a search didn't highlight any thread that might deal with this.

I was wondering what the deal was with the HDMI connection. Do you have to buy a sony licensed HDMI cable or are they something that can be purchased from anywhere (I've had a look on Vg+ and not seen anything). Also does HDMI mean that the sound has to come out of the TV or are there audio leads attached?
Sorry if this has been covered before.

    You didn't look very hard

I only know the answer because it's already been covered - Any standard HDMI lead will work.

(I'll probably be disproved in the next 5 minutes ><)

      1. u can use any HDMI cable
      2. when you use HDMI you will get audio coming from the tv or you can wire the optical to a amp for 5.1 etc.

as far as i know you cant get a HDMI cable that has RCA plugs for stereo so optical straight from the ps3 to the amp

It is a purely digital signal, using a gold plated cable is a waste of time.

Try those QED cables but it is 30 quids roughly. I got one with my DVD player but I find 1m HDMI cable far too short for my need.

It means it can transfer 5 gigabyte of data per second.

Ignore this. It all depends on your tv. Mine does 1080i natively, so that's the best option for me.

Progressive is better than interlaced unless it's a still picture, which games are not. PS3 games are natively 720p too. Auto detect best picture chooses 720p over 1080i too so I fail to see your logic.

                              720p>1080i.
