    360 Widescreen DVD support?

Up to now I'd never even considered using my 360 as a DVD player which is stupid really as its connected by VGA to my plasma, so I'd get the benefits of it upscaling. But.... on the few DVDs I tried tonight, they're not playing in widescreen. Am I missing something really obvious here? I assumed that the DVD would just play in the resolution specified through the dashboard, but instead I get large black bars at either side of the screen.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

You get that if the DVD isn't actually in widescreen format, my family guy and Futurama DVDs do that on the 360.

Ah, I did wonder that, so I've just been unlucky in the ones I've picked. D'oh. I knew there would be a simple explanation!

http://widescreen.org/aspect_ratios.shtml this will give you information.

so bascially 1:85 : 1 / 16:9 which is normal for widescreen display,

2:35 : 1 which is even wider widescreen which mean black borders on top and bottom.

1:33 : 1 / 4:3 which is normal TV display which mean border on both side of picture.

Same here. And no way of stretching the picture through VGA either.
